Historic Palomar Hotel aka The Bailey House aka The Big House

Welcome to historic Bailey House on Palomar Mountain! Bailey House has sheltered generations of guests, and the warm spirit of friendship and good tidings are always present.

3 Floors. 8 Bedrooms. 3.5 Baths – Perfect for Family Reunions, Crafting Retreats, and Large Groups

Located on the ground floor are the living room with its old stone fireplace, a small dining room for 8, a half bath. The open welcoming kitchen and breakfast nook promotes lively chats as everyone sits around the old oak table, Just off the living room is a salon/sitting room with a upright piano, perfect for intimate gatherings and fun singalongs.

The Master Suite also located downstairs for easy access has a new queen size bed and ensuite bathroom with shower. This was Dr. and Mrs. Bailey’s room during the three decades they hosted guests here at their mountain top resort.

Upstairs you’ll find 6 turn of the century style hotel rooms, each with its former room number on the door. The look and feel upstairs is virtually the same as it was during the golden years at Bailey’s between two Great Wars. The rooms are set up just as they were then – you can almost envision our guests from decades gone by, as they unpack and relax after their journey up the mountain by the Bailey’s Hotel Stage.

On the third floor, the Attic Dorm is perfect for singles or teens who want a bit of hangout space. There are 5 twin beds and a full bathroom.

A Unique Space. An Interesting History

Built in 1888 and once known as Bailey’s Palomar Hotel, this wonderfully restored century-old homestead is the centerpiece of our two hundred and forty acre property. The House provides historic, turn of the century ambiance in a quiet and rustic country setting. We have lovingly restored each room to its original 1920’s Hotel style and decor, taking you back to the golden destination resort days at Bailey’s.

The home’s 12 inch thick walls reflect the original adobe bricks fashioned on site from the local clays. Having dried the bricks in the sun, Native Americans helped to assemble the original first story – it was always cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Today a modern forced air furnace keeps the whole house snug under thermostatic control.

The Carriage House – Our Multi-Purpose Meeting Room Adjacent to Bailey House

No gathering of family, friends – or retreat guests – is really complete without an open communal area offering good food, cold beverages and room to enjoy it all! Our Carriage House is modeled on the look and feel of the original Baileys dining room and kitchen from back in the golden days at Baileys Resort.

Directly adjacent to Bailey House, our Carriage House is used by virtually all our groups; as diverse as Scrapbooking, Photo Composition Classroom, Yoga and Wellness Room, Wedding rehearsal dinners, and good old family gatherings!

Sheltered under a hundred-foot Redwood tree, Carriage House overlooks our old apple orchard and lower meadow.
